The Sun Enters Scorpio: Treasures From the Underworld King
Transcript:
Hello and welcome back to the Rising Hearts podcast, where together we navigate everyday life through grounded astrology and practical spirituality. I'm your host, Kristin Madding. Today I wanted to talk about the sun moving into Scorpio, which is going to take place next week on October 23rd.
In this episode, first I'm going to dispel some myths about the sun in general, describe the meaning of the sun and Scorpio, and then detail what everyone can expect with the sun moving into their Scorpio house. This episode is great for anyone wanting to better understand what it means to have a sun in Scorpio, andor what the next month will bring in terms of Scorpionic solar topics.
Okay, so to start things off, I would like to dispel some myths about the sun. It is my personal opinion that societally we way overemphasize the sun. Yes, it is important. The sun, the moon, and your rising sign comprise your major chart placements, commonly known as the big three, but the sun does not encapsulate who you are by any means. It is one planet out of seven, ten if you include the outer planets.
I understand why this happens. Everyone knows their sun sign because everyone knows their birthday. There is no birth time required. Unless, of course, you're born on the day the sun changes signs, and then you would need a birth time to ascertain your sun sign. But valid or not, the collective tendency to over-emphasize the sun is, in my opinion, very reductionist to what astrology actually is and what it can tell you. You are not your sun. You are your chart. If I were to reduce you down to a chart component, it would be your rising sign and the planet that rules your rising sign.
The collective fixation on the sun gives a lot of reason to doubt the validity of astrology. After all, it's very clear that all Virgos, for example, are not the same, even though they share some traits. The level of the sun's influence will vary from chart to chart and person to person. For example, those with the following chart conditions may experience a stronger connection or a stronger influence by the sun. So 1), those born during the day or with the sun above the ascendant slash descendant axis, 2) those with the sun in Leo or Aries, or those with Leo rising, 3) those with the sun in an angular house, which is the first, fourth, seventh, and tenth houses. Those people with those chart conditions, their sun is going to be more active in their lives.
Alternatively, people with the following conditions may feel less connected or less influenced by their sun. So those born at night, meaning the sun is below the ascendant slash descendant axis. Those with the sun in Libra or Aquarius, or those with the sun in a cadent house, and that's the third, sixth, ninth, or twelfth houses. There can be other considerations, of course, like if you have other planets in the same sign as your sun sign, you're gonna have more of an emphasis of that sign in your life and in your psyche. So there's a lot of things to consider. We'll just let these be the foundation that we move forward with for now.
As much as I get tired of hearing about the sun on social media, it does have value in saying something about you and your life. Quite a bit of value. I just don't think it's as much as we make it out to be. But here are some things the sun can indicate in general, and then I'll get into the Scorpio specific flavor after:
First, the sun primarily indicates over which domain you are quote unquote king. Its house tells you where you rule, and the sign tells you how you rule. So the sun is a masculine energy of leadership, regality, confidence, and authority. It's less about taking action, that's more Mars. But what does a king do? He sits on his throne, he rules, and he delegates.
Now, the sun has an advisor, and that's his signs, but planetary ruler. So every sign has a ruler, and that ruler will influence the planet in its sign.
The sun indicates the organizing principles of your life as well as your natural abilities and strengths.
It can also indicate, and oftentimes does, your father or a father figure, and in today's society, modern age, that could be your mother. The sun can indicate the nature of your relationship to authority.
Okay, so let's add the Scorpio energy to the sun:
A Scorpio sun has the energy signature of the king of the underworld. We get that symbolism from the nature of the season, the dead of fall, when the days get shorter and darker, the leaves fall from the trees, and the natural world starts to die and hibernate.
Scorpio is a feminine fixed water sign, and she is ruled by Mars. She is defined by her stamina, intuition, and her ability to go deep into a subject. Some might call her obsessive, while others might describe her as fervently committed to fully understanding something or someone. It's immersion, its intimate connection.
So this profound drive to understand something or someone is motivated by a need to be the authority over her domain. And she's really doing the work that it feels like no one else wants to do. A Scorpio son may say, "If I know enough about this thing or this person, if I'm involved and integrated enough and connected enough to them, then I will establish my value and authority." Or the flip could feel true, "If I establish my authority over this thing or a person, we will naturally grow in intimacy." Now the latter might be a tactic that may not produce the desired result.
While it's while at its best, Scorpio Suns can bring a deeply connecting, intuitive, nurturing energy, though the waters can get muddied if they slip into needing control, like needing control. And remember, for all my sun in Scorpios out there, the best leaders or " kings" honor and respect the autonomy of others.
So when we combine these symbolic interpretations, we often find Scorpio sons being willing to delve into areas of life others would prefer not to look at or engage with.
Still waters run super deep with Scorpio suns. If they seem quiet or reserved on the surface, you can be sure they have a complex, intense inner life, significant intelligence, and strong passions.
To thoroughly understand the full complexity of a Scorpio sun, we would need to analyze the person's natal Mars. What sign and house is it in? What other planets are in Scorpio or talking to Mars? This will show us how much the Scorpio is Scorpioing and what other flavors are involved.
Okay, so let's now transition to the transiting Scorpio sun. In a week, everyone will feel a shift in energy as the current or transiting sun moves into Scorpio. Since everyone has Scorpio in their chart, they will experience the impact of this shift to varying degrees based on the unique conditions of their chart.
Before we continue, I recommend pulling up your chart to ascertain which house Scorpio occupies. You'll need to go to a website to do that, or you can email me at infocristenmatting.com. That's K-R-I-S-T-I-N-M-A-D-D-I-N-G, and I can send you your chart. A quick reminder that I practice traditional astrology and I work in whole sign house systems, so that's the kind of chart I would send you. And please keep in mind that the house tells you which area of life will be impacted. If you have additional planets in Scorpio natally, it will also affect how the energies manifest. So it's not one size fits all, but this is a good baseline.
Okay, so what does it mean for the transiting sun to enter Scorpio? Often when the sun shifts signs, we see a new "king" come into our lives, or we'll see changes to an existing " king." Of course, the king is metaphorical. Whatever we're putting on a pedestal and honoring that month.
This king could be internal. Suddenly, we have more confidence to show up in the area of life symbolized by your Scorpio house, or your organizing principles, what's important to you and how you decide to live temporarily shifts, or more emphasis falls into one area of life.
This could also be external. You might meet an expert or interface with an authority or start reading a book or taking a class.
W ith the sun moving into Scorpio, we enter a more introspective period, period collectively. We have more stamina to go deeper on a subject or further develop a relationship of some kind. So it's taking what's already in existence, but going to the next level, going deeper, trying to establish more connection.
The sun's power often has an illuminating quality or a shining of light onto whatever area it touches. I find this relating to certain epiphanies or new understandings or aha moments. After the sun moves into Scorpio just later that day, it's going to meet up with that Venus in retrograde that we talked about in the last episode.
And during this time, I would expect more clarity, more ahas, more understanding to arise about what Venus in retrograde is trying to do in your life. So what are her goals? What is she shifting? If it wasn't clear, I'm assuming the sun will bring some clarity and understanding to that, to those events.
Okay, now I'm going to do like a super brief horoscope based on the rising signs for the sun and Scorpio. I did do these intuitively, but they're very short. I asked for one or two sentences, so very brief.
Aries risings have Scorpio in the eighth house bringing confidence to end a chapter of life or finally close a book. You can honor the past with reverence and love while simultaneously being sure it's time to move forward. So it's very much about endings.
Taurus risings have Scorpio in the seventh house bringing confidence to a partner or loved one, not so much about you.
Gemini risings have Scorpio in the sixth house bringing light and clarity to an issue that's been lingering under the surface. I sense a new understanding, diagnosis, or other realization coming into your consciousness now.
Cancer risings have Scorpio in the fifth house bringing energy for more play. I also see a reflective quality of the sun. This comes through in an image with the sun shining back to the first house where you were standing, and it's glinting off of a badge on your chest. So maybe there's an award or some honor you're receiving, and/or it just feels like, yeah, you're stepping into greater authority. There's definitely like a shining that's going to take place in a positive way about you in your life.
Leo risings have Scorpio in the fourth house bringing renewed strength to your parents or parental figures.
Virgo risings have Scorpio in the third house, bringing greater drive to get things done.
Libra risings have Scorpio in the second house, and there seems to be a taking of inventory of what resources are available to you. I see you counting money, asking how much do I have and where do I want to spend this money? It doesn't feel like it's grounded in anxiety. It's a very matter-of-fact just taking inventory.
Scorpio risings have Scorpio in the first house. The sun is coming in to burn up burdens and make space for fresh energy. It's a time of revitalization. I heard fresh energy loud and clear multiple times.
Sagittarius risings have Scorpio in the 12th house. It seems as though you've been grieving a transition and the sun is coming in to bring a new day. I heard those words verbatim, "a new day." So that's good.
Capricorn risings have Scorpio in the 11th house. I am sensing more energy within you to double down on a conflict. You are going to hold your ground, and I feel a lot of frustration within your energy field. There's no judgment in any of that. It's just matter of fact.
Aquarius risings have Scorpio in the 10th house, bringing confidence to whatever you've been working on. Oh, to bring whatever you've been working on into the public sphere. So you're now willing to present or talk about whatever, like , " secret" project you've been working on behind the scenes. Maybe it's an idea or an actual finished product. Regardless, you're gonna have some confidence to talk about it.
Pisces Risings have Scorpio in the ninth house bringing new information and perspectives into your purview. This is really going to help you in the months following, and it's going to solidify your authority on some matter or subject.
Okay, so that's it. That's gonna do it for this episode of the Rising Hearts Podcast. Thank you for joining me for this discussion on the Sun and Scorpio. Please follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts, and I will be back soon, I think with an episode on the upcoming Mercury retrograde. So thank you guys and take care.
